Boob Tape: Lift, Backless & Strapless with Kinesiology Tape

Branded boob tape is kinesiology tape sold in a prettier box. The same elastic fabric, the same skin-safe acrylic adhesive — ours comes pre-cut into 25cm strips with a dispenser, in beige or black, for £4.99 a roll. Here is how to use it for a lift, a backless dress or a strapless top, and how to take it off without regret.

What it can and cannot do. Tape gives real lift and shape for a night out, holds through dancing and light sweat, and stays invisible under a backless or plunge outfit. It is not a bra: it will not give full support for running or high-impact sport, and above a DD it shapes more than it lifts. Read the safety box before your first go — the difference between a good night and a sore one is nipple covers, a patch test and taking it off properly.

The tape to use

Beige for skin, black for dark outfits or a visible look. 20 pre-cut 5cm × 25cm strips per roll — enough for four or five nights out. Latex-free, hypoallergenic, water-resistant. £4.99 a roll · 3 rolls £14.97 delivered free.

Or mix colours on the counter · free UK delivery on 3 rolls or more, £4.95 on 1 or 2 · applied automatically, no code

Before you tape, every time: nipple covers on (tape on the nipple can tear skin when it comes off) · a 24-hour patch test on the inner arm the first time you use any tape · clean, dry skin with no moisturiser, oil, fake tan or deodorant · never on sunburn, broken skin, eczema or after recent breast surgery · off within 12 hours, removed with oil, never ripped.

The basic lift: step by step

Set-up: stand in front of a mirror, top off, nipple covers on. Have the strips torn and ready — you need one hand to hold the lift and one to lay the tape.

  1. Tear the first strip and peel back the top 5cm of backing only. Stick that end under the breast at the fold with no stretch. This is the anchor — anchors never stretch.
  2. Cup the breast and lift it to where you want it to sit. Hold it there.
  3. Peel the rest of the backing and lay the strip straight upward over the nipple cover towards the collarbone at 25–50% stretch. Let the last 5cm lie down with no stretch.
  4. Repeat with a second strip slightly to the outside, fanning towards the shoulder, and a third to the inside if you want cleavage. Most people use two or three strips a side.
  5. Rub every strip firmly for 20 seconds. The adhesive is heat-activated; it bonds properly after a few minutes.
  6. Move: raise your arms, bend, sit. If a strip lifts at an edge, press it back down or replace it now, not later.

One roll is 20 strips. Two strips a side, both sides, is four strips a night — five nights from a roll. Three rolls (60 strips) at £14.97 delivered is the sensible first order; a branded 5m roll of boob tape is £12–£20 for the same length.

Three outfits, three patterns

Backless

Backless dress or top

The lift strips above, then one horizontal strip a side starting under the breast and running round the ribcage towards the back, stopping before the dress line. That side strip stops the breast drifting outward when the lift strips are the only thing holding it. Beige tape disappears under skin-tone; for a black dress use black so nothing shows at the edges.

Strapless · plunge

Strapless top or plunge neckline

Two strips a side laid in a V: one from the outer fold up towards the shoulder, one from the inner fold up towards the collarbone, crossing over the nipple cover. The V pulls inward and up, which is what a plunge needs. Keep the top ends well clear of the neckline — check in the mirror with the top on before you leave.

Halterneck · side

Halterneck, one-shoulder, side-cut

Lift strips angled towards the shoulder that is covered, plus a short strip from the outer fold running up under the arm to hold the side. If the outfit shows the side of the breast, cut the strips narrower down the middle — a 5cm strip splits cleanly into two 2.5cm strips with scissors.

Taking it off

This is the part people get wrong. Soak the tape in oil — coconut, olive, baby oil, whatever is in the house — and leave it five to ten minutes. Then peel from the top down, slowly, pressing the skin down with the other hand as you go. In the shower, warm water helps but oil is better. Never pull it off dry and never pull it upward away from the skin. Moisturise afterwards and leave the skin alone for a day before taping again.

The honest difference: boob-tape brands sell nipple covers in the box and print instructions for breasts. The tape itself is the same class of product. Ours is designed and tested as sports tape, which means the adhesive is built to hold through sweat for days — use it for a night, not a week.

Costume season

Halloween and fancy dress

Backless and strapless costumes are where most people first try tape. Two things to know: black tape reads as part of the costume if a strip shows, and our Talisman designs — Viking runes, chakra symbols, dreamcatchers — turn visible strapping into a deliberate look for a warrior, mystic or shaman outfit. Same tape, same price, printed.

Skin notes. Facial and chest skin is thinner than a knee. If you have sensitive skin, a history of contact dermatitis or you are pregnant or breastfeeding, patch-test for a full 24 hours and keep the stretch low. Stop and remove with oil at the first sign of burning or itching. Do not re-tape skin that is still pink from the last removal.

Frequently asked

Does kinesiology tape actually work as boob tape?

Yes — the branded boob tapes are kinesiology tape under another name. The lift is real while the tape is on, it holds for a night out, and it shows nothing under a backless or plunge outfit. It is not a sports bra.

Will it hold a larger bust?

Up to a D or DD it lifts well with three or four strips a side. Above that, tape gives shape and stops movement more than it lifts — layer an extra horizontal strip round the side and keep expectations realistic.

Can I swim or sweat in it?

It is water-resistant and built for sport, so yes. Pat dry rather than rubbing, and remember that the longer it is on the harder it is to remove — 12 hours is the sensible limit on chest skin.

Do I really need nipple covers?

Yes. The adhesive is designed to grip skin for days; on a nipple that means broken skin on removal. Silicone or fabric covers, every time.

Beige or black?

Beige under anything light or skin-tone; black under black or if a strip might show. For a costume where you want the tape seen, the black Talisman prints are the ones to pick.

How many rolls do I need?

One roll is 20 strips — four or five nights at two strips a side. Three rolls for £14.97 delivered free is the order that makes sense; one roll on its own is £4.99 plus £4.95 postage.
